World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading The upgrade of an item allows players to increase the gear score of an item to 700 and also add an additional perk. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln. In the case of items that only see use in a specific build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example), upgrading them may render them unusable unless you have an extremely fortunate roll. Items of armor can also be upgraded to increase their performance. This can boost the defense base of a helm or chest while belts and gloves can boost their strength and agility. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense%. This means that it may reroll down to a lower value. The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will get when upgraded and their respective values. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% does not mean that the weapon will strike three times less, since it is an absolute number. A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button with circling arrows in the menu for items.
